Know What the Bride Doesn't Want

Over the last few weeks I've talked to hundreds of brides at wedding fairs. I found myself watching the same scenario play out over and over again.

Me: Have you started hen's parting planning yet?

Bride: I don't know that I want one, they're not really my thing.

Bridesmaid: Ohhh yes yes yes! you're DEFINITELY having one!

Bride: *nervous and worried expression*

After talking more to these lovely ladies I found that (more often than not) the reason the bride didn't want a hen's party was because of the stereotype they had in their mind of what a hen's party should be. Pink feathers, flashing lights, penis everything, and a greasy man who is waaay to close within their personal space bubble. Don't get me wrong, that style of party can be perfect for the right person, but a lot of people would prefer to stab themselves in the eye with a fork than have a hen's party like that.

Every bride has her own style. There are things she loves and things she hates. There are things about her that make her so incredibly special. A hen's party should be a reflection of the bride as an individual. It should highlight things she loves, and the things you love about her. It should be full of cheeky nods to memories created, while being a new and unforgettable experience you talk about for years to come.

Hen's parties are a bonding experience for the bride's tribe. They strengthen existing friendships and create opportunities for new ones within the bride's tribe. A hen's party strengthens the community that will support the bride and groom throughout their marriage.

Most excitingly, a hen's party is an opportunity to experience things as a group that you wouldn't normally. Go horse riding, enjoy an art class, kick butt in archery tag, make flower crowns, take a self-defence class. Experience the unexpected and make sure it represents who the bride is, and the things she loves.

To make sure the tribe is on the same page as the bride, get her to take our Pre-Party Planning Interview. The bride will feel more confident in having a hen's party. She'll know that her party won't be something she's going to hate, and the tribe will have better guidance about what the bride wants (and most importantly doesn't want!)
